ART SUPPLIES – FREIGHT ISSUES

logistics

The art supplies world has, for the most part, been minimally impacted by COVID-related freight issues due to the amount of stock held by the wholesalers in Australia. There was a point in 2020 where there were no 12×12″ ready-made canvases in any brand!!

This buffer has started to reduce with some international brands having delays of a few months. In some areas, like the USA brands have started to have serious problems – General’s, Golden Acrylics  to name a few…This has also meant the the wholesalers are not able to give us (stockists) definitive advice about the availability of their products.

The one thing they all have in common is however, that freight costs have skyrocketed and as a result some art supplies have increased in price significantly in April 2021.

For this reason we have suggested to artists to make sure they have enough to finish the job if you are working on a large artwork. We also suggest that you manage the expectations of their customers with regards to promises to complete artworks within a short timeframe. Some frames and stretcher bar required for custom sized canvases are delayed by more than 2 months, so confirm availability with your framer BEFORE offering a pick-up date so that customers are not left feeling disappointed.
